Emily Rose Harris. Miss Buckinghamshire 2010 Finalist

Without doubt, Emily was my favourite to photograph. When I first met her in the first heat she came bounding towards me like a tall bottle of excitement! Initially I tried to contain her excitement but after a minute of shooting I realised that it was best just to leave her to it! Her confidence and manic party nature just warmed to me. With other girls I had to work a little to get the best out of them, with Emily I just asked her to give me an expression and to “chase the squirrel” (don’t ask, it’s not what you think it is). A funny story, Emily didn’t actually like the photos I took at the heats.. apparently she had partied too hard the night before!

During the Miss Buckinghamshire Finals it was our job to photograph behind the scenes as well as the cat walk; although there were lots of beautiful women it was Emily who was always aware of where I was and always give a knowing smile to the camera! Because of this she was the most fun to photograph both on and off stage.

I called her a “big show off” but show offs are teh the kind of people I like to photograph, the worst kind are the ones who duck and run for cover!! Show offs love the camera and I get great moments from them expressing themselves and enjoying the moment for what it is.

Emily is all about big; big smiles, big eyes, big waving party arms… all the girls were amazing, there were no exceptions but Emily, on camera, was exceptional to work with.

Emily Rose Harris came 3rd place overall. Many congratulations.

Thalia was one of those assisting for Jade at the Miss Bucks finals. It is obvious to me why I should photograph her and so here’s her photo!

Scarlett Vincent. 3rd place runner up Miss Buckinghamshire 2010 finals.

Having worked with Scarlett before it was great for Kelly and I to see her again at the Miss Buckinghamshire finals in Beaconsfield. She was tucked away in the main meeting room, which was to later become the changing room, so I did not notice her at first but it was soon apparent where she was.

No matter how many girls I photograph, I try and find something magical about each person; in a practical way I use my lights to find the highlights and the shadows. In a philosophical way I look at the face to see what I can find beneath. I believe this is possible with every model, with Scarlett it was easy to find.

Through the lens, I see woman who can tempt the camera. She has obvious beauty, but that’s not enough for me. With Scarlett there is also a gentleness that does transpose into something else everything. I never quite get the same Scarlett when I photograph her which makes her challenging and exciting to shoot.

We will be working again with Scarlett very soon. Congratulations Miss Vincent.

Nicole Chandiram. Runner up Miss Buckinghamshire 2010.

Miss Bucks 2010 was my first beauty pageant; to be honest when Jade Parsons asked me to photograph beautiful girls all day it was no brainer. I didn’t know what to expect. Some thoughts of America’s Next Top model ran through my mind but it wasn’t like that at all. There were all types of personality, the quiet girl, the shy girl, the party girl and the happy girl which is what I observed in Nicole.

I don’t know Nicole as well as the other girls, but what I do know is she’s full of life and someone who doesn’t take life too seriously (something I should learn from personally). She’s bubbly, full of energy and very easy to befriend the other girls. You just know that someone like her is very popular among her friends and people she encounters in her life.

On the catwalk, the girls were all greeted with cheers and applause; while the girls were strutting their stuff the room was alive with pride from their respective friends and family. When Nicole appeared at the back of the stage there was a roar of noise for her. People were up on their feet cheering and clapping. This just proves her loyalty and popularity among her friends. If it came to voting in the room and not left to the judges, I believe Nicole would have won!

On camera she is as every bit as stunning as she is in person. Great fun to photograph, I only wish I had more time but for just one minute I was able to capture a fantastic model.

Amber Gamble. The photos from Miss Buckinghamshire 2010

***UPDATE: View all the official photos of Amber Gamble from the Miss Buckinghamshire competition by clicking this link***

I’ll be honest, I don’t have time to do this but I love working on these photos so much that I get very excited just thinking about the potential. Amber is just a natural beauty but that much is obvious, what I picked up by just observing all the girls as they were getting ready was Amber’s stillness was and reserve was very endearing. That is not to say she’s shy; this photographer believes anyone who can stand up and parade themselves to 200 strangers gets a medal from me, but there is something like a vulnerability that “perhaps” makes people warm to her.

In front of my camera, she’s as natural as they come. Some girls understandably are nervous and because I only have a very short time with them individually, I need them to up their confidence very quickly. Amber is one of those girls who knows who needs to be in front of a lens; being a model is almost like putting on a mask, you have to become something else that may not be natural to you and is ofttimes surreal in what you have to do (think standing in very hot room on a piece of paper and a very hot light taking instructions from a guy with a huge camera).

As a photographer, Amber is the type of model I like working with. I am privileged to know many beautiful women, but I like models who have layers. It is said that a photographer does not “take” a picture, he finds it; that is what Amber allows me to do by seeing beyond the surface and finding that magical something that some people have and Miss Gamble definitely has that.

I KNOW there are literally hundreds of you viewing these photos of the lovely Miss Gamble, PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT BELOW so she and the world can read it!! I know Amber would appreciate your comments and congratulations! I mean, how often do get to be crowned Miss Buckinghamshire! So go on, show your support by leaving a comment below!!
